On January 2nd, Larry Richard, Buffalo Soldier historian and re-enactor, spoke to our club about the Black Calvary Horse Soldiers from the late 1800s to a full house of 63 Veteran Club members. Sketches are by member Pat Waddick.
On February 6th, 99-year-old Harvey Horn, a WWII B-17 navigator and former POW, spoke to our club. Harvey related his experiences during the war and his capture by the German Navy and rescued in 1945. Sketches are by member Pat Waddick.
On March 6th, Jennifer Gutowski, Director for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, spoke to 65 members about VA benefits and advantages to be enrolled within the VA system.
On April 3rd, Gary Smith and Jeri Harwood, from the Oro Valley American Legion, discussed about membership in the American Legion and how Jeri Harwood could file a disability claim to the VA on your behalf. They spoke to 65 members about VA claims and advantages to be enrolled within the VA system. Leslie Monroe and Sharon Larsen are making quilts for Veterans at the VA and over $200 was donated to them to buy patriotic materials.
On May 1st, 99-year-old Walter Ram, a WWII B-17 radio operator and former POW, spoke to our club. Walter related his flight missions during the war and his capture by the Germans and time at Stalag 17. He was liberated by Patton's Army in 1945.
On Oct 2nd, Davis Seia, Marana Veteran Cemetery Foundation, spoke to our club about the cemetery requirements for interment and the services performed there. 50 members were in attendance. Members brought food items to donate to the VA Food Pantry.
On Nov 6th, Ken Rosburg, a retired Air Force F4 pilot, presented a slide show of the development and actions of the F4 Wild Weasel in Vietnam. Over 60 members were in attendance. Members brought food items to donate to the VA Food Pantry.
