Minutes of Meeting Feb 6, 2023
Meeting started at 1 pm with 66 members and 1 guest in attendance.
New members in attendance for the first time were: John Miller US Navy, Dan Reitar US Army, Ed Elster US Army, Cliff Leslie US Navy, Kenn Riordan US Army, Chuck Hewins US Air Force.
The 1 January 2023 meeting minutes were approved as stated. Roger Benusatti and Ted Tindall first and seconded the motion respectively and passed unanimously.

Old Business
Heroes Wall. Join the other 87 photos on our website. Send Mike a photo of when you were in the service with the location and year the photo was taken.
If you served in the military between Nov 1955 and May 1975, you are eligible to receive the Vietnam commemorative pin. See Mike after the meeting.
Mike sent out an email on December 13 with a link to an application that will allow you to make a military plaque for yourself, which will allow you to document your service.

Announcements
Mike and others discussed the importance of registering with the VA for benefits. Even if you do not collect or intend to collect, the number of veterans registered helps determine funding from the government. This may help fund those who need benefits. Also, the VA can be slow to respond so it is important to get registered ASAP. Mike stated that the government has well-funded VA benefits, so you will not be taking money away from those who truly need benefits.
It was pointed out that Arizona no longer has taxes on military retirement benefits. This act is retro-active to 2018 (possibly).
“Meet and Greets” continues monthly at The Views at 3:30 PM on the first Wednesday of the month. The next one will be Wednesday, March 1 at 3:30 PM at The Views Restaurant.

Harvey Horn, B-17 navigator stationed in Foggia, Italy during WWII. His B-17 “Pretty Baby's Boy's” was hit by flak on a mission to Yugoslavia and had to ditch into the northern Adriatic Sea, which is now Croatia, were the German Navy captured his entire crew. Harvey has written a book about his captivity called “Goldfish – Silver Boot. Harvey holds a degree in Industrial Engineering, has 4 patents, and helped rewrite the Fabrics Flammability Act in 1953.
