Veterans Club SCOV
Minutes of Meeting, 3 May, 2021
President Mike LaBarbera called meeting to order at 1:00 PM with 27 attendees. All stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
One new member was recognized (Reagan Bell). The current Veterans Club membership now stands at 210.
The April minutes were approved as read. Wally Bowman motioned for approval and was seconded by Ted Tindall.
Club Treasurer Larry Webster gave a financial report indicating the balance as of April 30, 2021 was $1239.08.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Kate Cusumono and Dave Henderson for their Honor Guard presentation of the folded flag to the widow of Ode Satterfield.
Mike gave an update on sales of memorial bricks for the proposed Legacy walkway in Sun City. We now have 104 orders resulting in $13000 total sales, of which $4000 has been earmarked for the SC Veterans Club.
Mike also reminded members to send him pictures of themselves during time of service if you have not already done so.
He also reminded members of the joint meeting on July 3 with the veteran clubs of Sunflower and Marana. With renovations upcoming for the SC auditorium we will be meeting for one last time here on Monday, June 7, 2021. The July meeting will be with the joint veterans of Sunflower and Marana. We will then resume our on campus meeting in August back in the Catalina Vista location.
Our guest speaker was introduced. Wayne Larroque (Commander American Legion Post 132 Oro Valley) gave interesting facts about the post’s activities, and numerous organizations they support.
We were also made aware that any member who served in the armed services between 11-1-55 and 5-15-75 was eligible to wear the Vietnam service pin. You did not have to physically serve in Vietnam. 2,900,000 served in Vietnam, with 31% of those still alive today.
The meeting concluded with the 50/50 raffle drawing and was adjourned at 2:05 PM.
The next meeting is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Monday, 7 June, 2021.
