Veterans Club SCOV
Minutes of Meeting, 2 August, 2021
President Mike LaBarbera called meeting to order at 1:00 PM with 20 attendees. All stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
One new member was recognized (Dale Foster) for first time attendance.
The June 7th minutes were approved as stated. Larry Clark moved to approve and was seconded by Ted Tindell.
Finance report was given by Treasurer Larry Webster showing a club balance as of this date of $1337.78 and a current club membership of 225.
President Mike LaBarbera reminded the attendees to bring a shirt for embroidery showing your branch of service if not already done so. Also a picture of yourself in military uniform would be a welcome addition to our club gallery posting on our website. We currently have pictures of 53 members.
There were 16 SCOV Veteran Club members in attendance for the joint July 3 meeting with Veteran Clubs of Sunflower, Marana and SCOV at the Barnfire Grill in Marana. A total of 58 people from the three veterans club were in attendance.
A deadline for orders for a memorial brick for our SCOV veterans walkway in now Nov. 15th. We now have a total of 163 orders as of this time.
Mike and guest demonstrated proper folding of the US Flag. We also heard the symbols and tributes cited for each of the 13 total folds.
Our guest speaker, Guy Peabody and Alan Sperling, represented the Scottish American Veterans Society. They gave a slide show giving their typical presentations at various community events such as Memorial Day events, Honor Guard events, parades, ceremonies, and other community service organizations. The Tucson post was established in 1982 and presently has 35 active members. This is a Military Fraternal Organization and the guests were dressed in impressive Scottish kilt uniforms
Our next Veterans Club meeting will be on Oct. 4th. There will be no meeting in Sept. because of Labor Day.
