Veteran Club Minutes
Sept 7, 2020
Before the meeting Mike LaBarbera noted that since we were outdoors members could salute the US Flag during the Pledge of Allegiance but must remain silent. Twenty Two members were in attendance.
Two members attended their first Veteran Club meeting. Ed Sanicki and Ed Caine
Finances - Club balance is $557.66
Proposal to NOT hold Veteran Club meetings on Holidays due to closure of buildings and no support services was unanimously approved. Those scheduled Veteran Club meetings that fall on a holiday will be scheduled to the next available day following a holiday.
Certificates of Appreciation presented to:
Tom Held and Bill Livingston
Suggestions were solicited on how we can wisely spend the club money supporting Veterans.
- Making a large pot of soup/chili during the winter
- Make smoked chicken or pulled pork(Ed Caine)
- Meet a Veteran for lunch for a meet & greet
- Bring/cook a meal at the shelter
Mike LaBarbera advised members of an upcoming collection drive of gently used clothing and personal hygiene items to be collected the end of October until Veterans day.
Recruitment - When you talk to others about joining our club, please get their name and email address and forward it to Mike LaBarbera. He will contact them through email with links to our website.
Discussion as to whether we can donate money directly to the homeless shelter will be researched.
50/50 raffle tickets will be offered at each meeting as a fundraiser. Members present advised other clubs offer the same type fundraiser.
Discussion as to whether used computers can be donated homeless Veterans will be researched.
Discussion about holding a gathering (if easement of COVID restrictions)(open to Veteran Club members & SCOV residents) to watch the Army/Navy football game in the Activities Center Auditorium. Kick off is December 12 at 3PM EST.
