Minutes of Meeting Oct 2, 2023
The meeting started at 1 pm with 53 members and 1 guests in attendance.
New members or in attendance for the first time were: Scott Jarvis US Navy, Barry and Carol Cann both US Air Force, Raymond Loffredo US Navy, and Dirk Veleke US Army.
The May 1, 2023 meeting minutes were approved as stated. Jerry Moss and Joe Harris first and seconded the motion respectively and passed unanimously.
Finance Report: Larry Webster
Current Membership is 353
Current bank balance: $5035.81.
Larry announced there are 128 members with paid dues.
Old Business
If you served in the military between Nov 1955 and May 1975, you are eligible to receive the Vietnam commemorative pin. Award pin/certificate
New Business
Need help for the flu clinic on Oct 12 from 7am to 1 pm, contact Mike to volunteer.
Meet & Greet Wednesday, Oct 4th 3:30 at the Views.
Mike discussed the “Never Forgotten” book. There is a copy in the library, and 3 SCOV members are profiled.
Display Case Welcome Center showcase was discussed, and Mike would like some medals or memorabilia to display.
The club will put on the Pancake Breakfast Saturday Jan 26 from 7 to 10, and open to the community. Need up to 30 volunteers to help at the Activity Center. This would be a way to raise money for the club. Further plans are needed.
Speakers: Veteran Heritage Project speaker and children did not attend the meeting as planned. She and her students will be looking for approx. 20 Veterans to tell their story to be published in a small book. See Mike to volunteer for this project. This will create a book like the “Never Forgotten” book.
Davis Seia, from Marana Veterans Cemetery Foundation
Davis spoke about the history of the Marana cemetery and how it was funded and those responsible for its creation.
There will be Missing in America Project burial Oct 28 at the cemetery.
