Minutes of Meeting 3 April 2023
The meeting started at 1 pm with 63 members and 2 guests in attendance.
New members in attendance for the first time were: Bob Asbell US Army, Lois Postil US Army, Jeff LeFavre US Air Force.
The 3 March 2023 meeting minutes were approved as stated. Dennis Alexander and Ian Friedlander first and seconded the motion respectively and passed unanimously.
Finance Report: Larry Webster
Current Membership is 347
Current bank balance: $5359.09.
Larry announced there are 112 members with paid dues.
Old Business
Heroes Wall. Join the other 88 photos on our website. Send me a photo of when you were in the service with the location and year the photo was taken.
If you served in the military between Nov 1955 and May 1975, you are eligible to receive the Vietnam commemorative pin. See Mike.
Over 90 members have an embroidered club shirt. Please stand. We wear them to show our association to the Veterans Club at meetings, meet & greets, and doing outreach visits. If you want a shirt embroidered, please bring one to my house with your name attached.
New Business
Leslie Monroe showed patriotic design quilts made for the VA Hospital for patients. She wants to continue this project. A motion was made to donate the April 3, 50/50-raffle money to her for supplies.
Dennis Alexander and Ian Friedlander first and seconded the motion respectively and passed unanimously. Over $200 was Saturday, April 22 – Missing in America Project; there will be an unclaimed veteran’s interment ceremony at Marana Veterans Cemetery at 10AM. If you ride a motorcycle and want to participate in the procession from funeral home contact Mike LaBarbera for information. Or meet at the Bocce ball courts to caravan or carpool ready to leave at 9:15. Lunch to follow at the Feedlot restaurant.

May guest speaker – Walter Ram, WWII B-17 radio operator/POW.
The Daughters of the American Revolution are searching for Vietnam veterans to interview. If you are interested, please contact Penny Simon-Nielen, at 206-349-1062 or by email at [email protected].
In October there will be a guest from the Veteran Heritage Foundation who is a schoolteacher who has kids interview any veteran and produce a booklet of stories. Mike stresses the importance of getting into the VA system even if you don’t need VA services.

Today’s speakers is a segue from the visit from Jennifer Gutowski, the director of VA hospital who visited us last month. Gary Smith and Jeri Harwood from the OV American Legion. Jeri is a Veteran Service Officer, your advocate to help file a VA claim.
