Hi all, 3-5
- National Veterans Games in Madison, WI, June 22-27. I know some of you are from that part of the country. Check out the different sports involved. Perhaps you may want to participate.
- 75th Anniversary of raising of the flag at Iwo Jima on Feb 24th.
- Retirees and Veterans allowed to Salute the US Flag
- Current roster has 119 members/66 paid. Check out our roster to insure I have your information correct.
- Club military service breakdown:
- 21 AF
- 54 Army
- 2 CG
- 8 Marines
- 31 Navy
- 3 Unknown
- We currently have 28 members with a Veteran Club embroidered shirt. If anyone would like to have one of YOUR branch related colored shirts embroidered, please get it to me. Please wear your embroidered shirts to our meeting or when volunteering on Veteran Club outreach visits.
- If anyone wants to join 3 of us who are volunteering to sort clothes at the Veteran "Stand Down" next Tuesday, March 10, please let me know. They emailed me to say they need more help. We don't have to be there until 9AM so we want to stop and have breakfast before going to the Grand Luxe Hotel on Grant Ave.
- On Tuesday, March 5, the Veterans Club bought 7 pizzas for the 17 residents at the "Comin Home" temporary housing in Tucson.
- Tom Bethea, Ian Friedlander and myself met with Sam Nanez, Recreation Manager of the Veteran Home in Tucson. We would like to support the home, which has 130 residents. If you have DVDs (especially war movies, westerns) or music CDs you do not watch or listen to, please get them to me at 2145 E Bighorn Mountain Dr or bring them to our next club meeting on April 6. Sam will speak at our meeting to review services offered at the home. Sam mentioned that there is a need for DVD players to put in their room. There are common area recreation rooms that have DVD players but limited resident rooms have them. If you have a used, working DVD player you would like to donate, please get that to me also. I would like to suggest we use the donation jar money to purchase DVD players to donate to the home. Feedback please.
- If you can't make our monthly meeting or you don't see me out and about, mail your annual $5 dues or donations, checks payable to Veterans Club SCOV.

- I spoke to Mark Wade, SCOV General Manager, about my proposal to sell engraved bricks to SCOV residents for a Veteran & First Responder memorial pathway. He agreed it was a good idea but the timing is off. The Long Range Planning Committee proposed on Tuesday to renovate the Desert Oasis and other SCOV facilities. Once a task force is created by the Board of Directors to formulate a plan for the renovations, I will recommend to the task force that pathways be made of these engraved bricks to memorialize Veterans and First Responders. To be continued.....
- I have gotten a couple of your pictures since our meeting for our website but I always want to post more. Please send me a photo of you while you were in the service with location and year.
- I mentioned at our Monday meeting about recruiting members for our club. I wanted to reiterate that YOU get potential members email address and forward it to me with NAME, PHONE NO. and SERVICE BRANCH (as much info as you can). I will then email information about what our club does and a link to our website. Our club has grown exponentially since August but would always welcome new members.
- See you at the View Restaurant Friday, March 6, 3:30 for the Veteran Happy Hour social "Meet & Greet"
As always, thank you for your service
Mike
