Meeting called to order at 4PM
Before the reciting of the Pledge Mike LaBarbera noted that since we were outdoors members could salute the US Flag during the Pledge of Allegiance but must remain silent. Seventeen members were in attendance.
Four members attended their first Veteran Club meeting. Brett & Jaqui Martyn-Dow, Wayne Klenda and Larry Grey
Current membership is 166
Finances - Club balance is $557.66
Four members paid $5 dues for 2020
Certificates of Appreciation presented to:
Wayne Klenda
Suggestions were solicited on how we can wisely spend the club money supporting Veterans.
- Making a large pot of soup/chili during the winter
- Make smoked chicken or pulled pork(Ed Caine)
- Meet a Veteran for lunch for a meet & greet
- Bring/cook a meal at the shelter
- Build or buy picnic tables for common area at shelters
Mike LaBarbera advised members of an upcoming collection drive of gently used clothing and personal hygiene items to be collected October 28th until Veterans day.
50/50 raffle tickets sold - $41. Larry Webster won and donated his winnings to the Veterans Club
Mike advised members the Veterans Club collected 30 computers and they are in the process of having hard drives erased by the Technology Club in the Computer Lab.
The Veterans Club membership is twice the size it was last year. With snowbirds returning and cooler weather coming, the Veteran Club meetings will be held in the Activity Center Auditorium starting in November at 1PM. Masks will be required in SCOV buildings unless protocols are changed.
I am researching the possibility of hosting the Army-Navy game in the Activity Center Auditorium on Saturday, December 12, beginning at 3PM EST (1PM Sun City time)
