Hi all 4-21
- I hope everyone is getting through this tough time healthy.
- I have been talking with Old Pueblo Community Services. They run the temporary homeless Veteran unit and other homeless shelters in Tucson. I am trying to coordinate delivering the donated clothes I have collected and stored in my dining room for the past 2 months. Some of you have asked if I am still collecting. If you still want to donate, please bring items to my house by tomorrow at 2145 E Bighorn Mountain Dr. Gerry Buddenbaum and Bill Livingston have pickup trucks and will help me deliver the items within the next few days, I hope.
- I got a call from Pam Sarpalius, Sun City program director. Pam wants the Veterans Club SCOV do a 4th of July parade. She will have a parade route throughout Sun City, similar to the SC Easter Parade. I hope club members, who are still in town, would team up with motorcycles and golf carts flying American Flags, signs, banners, etc, to be in this parade. If you do not have a golf cart perhaps you could beg, borrow or steal (kidding) one for the parade. Our club would purchase blank white paper for you to create an original sign to display on your golf cart. I would love to get maximum participation. As I get more information I will pass it along.
- If you want one of YOUR shirts, with a color that represents your branch of service, embroidered for free, with club name and your first name, get it to me. Check out the blue link to see the branch colors for shirts I have on our website. Does not have to be the exact color shown, just close.
- If you are collecting a VA compensation, your surviving spouse may be eligible for benefits if you die. Fill out VA Form 21P-534EZ online now. Place completed form in the folder with your DD214 and other important papers. There is information needed on the form that is easier for you to fill in now, than having your spouse try to find after you pass.
- The Veterans club bought pizza dinner for 25 temporary homeless Veterans Thursday, April 16. As always, the residents were very grateful for our donation.
- Clark Nienow has recruited another new Air Force member. Believe me it's not hard. Most folks will gladly give you their information and join our club, if they are asked. Please don't hesitate to ask.
TAPS - Retired Coast Guard Captain Lee Krumm died Friday morning April 17. He was a 27 year veteran and a 1960 Coast Guard Academy graduate. His remains will be interred in the CG Academy Columbarium in New London, CT and in Alaska. Lee was at home with is wife Patti when he passed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Patti did find his DD214 at home with other important papers.
As always, thank you for your service.
Mike
